Africa's Top 20 Busiest Container Sea Ports - 2014

The following is data in TEUs on the 20 Busiest Container Sea Ports in Africa. As at the time of publishing, information on Abidjan, Sokhna, Port Sudan and Rades was not available nor could realistic estimates be made.

For the entries indicated as estimates, calculation as follows:

• Apapa and Tin Can - Obtained the total TEUs handled by Nigerian ports from Nigerian Ports Authority website (1,584,587 TEUs in 2012; 1,727,847 TEUs in 2013; 1,853,966 TEUs in 2014). Allocated 45% of volumes to Apapa and 35% to Tin Can based on information on page 116 of an Agence Française de Développement (AFD) report. 
• Dar es salaam - Looked at the 2013 ratio of total tonnage versus total container throughput. Used this ratio to calculate the 2014 TEU based on 2014 tonnage data.
